what kind of wedding film to choose and why?

A wedding film is an absolutely wonderful way to preserve the memories of a day that is simply special. But which particular kind to choose? Everyone may have a different idea of what should be in a wedding film – from a dynamic clip that captures the most meaningful moments, to a detailed documentary of the entire day. I’m going to present you with some classic options for the types of wedding films I offer, and what each one includes.

5 minute clip - dynamic demonstration of the most important moments

If you like a quick, energetic review of the best moments of your day, a 5-minute clip is the perfect choice. This type of film focuses on the key moments – the introduction of the location, the preparations, the ceremony, your unequivocal „I do“, the first kiss, the first cake feeding, the first dance, the witnesses‘ sentences that deserve to be set in stone, as well as the very special moments that only happen at your wedding. From my point of view, this version is perfect for a quick memory of your wedding day and also as a showcase to friends, colleagues or even random passers-by in the park :)) Moreover, I dare to say that the five-minute footage is the maximum that a person not involved in the wedding is still able to perceive with attention in these accelerated times.

This version is just the perfect way to have a brisk and intense overview of the entire wedding day.

20 - 30 minutes documentary - detailed course of the whole day

If you prefer a longer, more detailed overview of the entire wedding and want to have a good cry, then a documentary of 20 to 30 minutes will be the right choice. This option captures the wedding day with details that can’t even fit into a short clip. Only the ceremony, which I put a lot of emphasis on, is usually the same length in a documentary as a 5 minute clip. It also includes full speeches from the witnesses, more detailed dance creations during the first dance, and maybe even lightly wrapped messages from the wedding party. In my submission, this is not just a simple simple edit – the documentary is just as elaborate and creative as the 5 minute clip.

If you want to properly enjoy the flow of your wedding day and have a beautiful film of yourselves to play on important days such as your wedding anniversary, Valentine’s Day, Czech Statehood Day, then a documentary is the best choice.

10 minute film - combines the best of a dynamic clip and a calmly flowing documentary

If you’re looking for a compromise between a quick clip and a longer documentary, then a 10 minute film is a great choice. This format combines the best of a dynamic clip that captivates with a fast pace, while maintaining a calm and fluid documentary flow. You can have a film that captures the most beautiful and important moments as well as the intimate and personal.

Ideal for anyone looking for a balance between dynamism and calmly fulfilling emotions.

45 - 60 second reels - juicy social media fodder

If you want to share your happiness on social media immediately after the wedding, then a 45-60 second reel is the ideal format. This energetic clip in a vertical format attracts attention and is great for Instagram, TikTok or Facebook. It contains short but powerful moments that will literally captivate your friends and admirers on social media, just a few dozen hours after the wedding reception has ended.

digitized footage on analogue super 8mm film - vintage charm

For those who want something truly unique, I offer the opportunity to shoot on analog Super 8mm film. Filmstrips have an unmistakable retro feel and their charm cannot be replaced by digital technology. Footage shot on a Canon camera from the last millennium and Kodak film will give you a unique vintage look that will give your wedding film the feel of decades past. A single roll of film can be edited into a separate 2-3 minute film or the footage can be used in the formats already mentioned above.

This type of film will be right for you if you are looking for something extra and want to capture moments in a beautiful retro style.

Conclusion

Choosing the right type of wedding film depends on what moments you want to preserve for yourself, or perhaps for your offspring. Friends will appreciate a short clip, grandmothers will appreciate a long documentary that will use up a whole pack of tissues. I personally recommend a combination of a 5 minute clip and a 20 – 30 minute documentary, but whatever format you choose, remember that a wedding film is a great way and the only way to preserve all the beautiful moments from a day that will never be repeated.
